The Science of Bodybuilding For Females

By: Elle Nash

I wanted to share a little with you about the science of bodybuilding for females. When it comes to the body and how we can build muscle and keep fit, there is a lot of misinformation out there. I believe the main reason for that is we blindly accept information that is used as a marketing technique. It's very typical in infomercials selling products. I hope to shed some light on the science, so you can use that to your benefit.

Compensate for less testosterone

As women, we have less testosterone as men and we are led to believe we are at a disadvantage. It is true, but I find when people use that statement, they're really just trying to validate not even trying. The first logical point to hammer home is that you're not competing against men. It's irrelevant how much more muscle men can produce. The second point is that testosterone isn't really a "miracle" hormone. People look at steroids as easy fixes to put on big muscle. It's completely false. It requires extremely hard work.

How do you compensate? You work harder. Hard work is what forces muscle to adapt and grow. If you don't properly stimulate them, they have no reason to grow, regardless of how much testosterone your body has.

You can also increase your overall volume by doing compound exercises. These are the exercises that work huge portions of the body with one repetition. These would be exercises like squats and deadlifts. Clinical studies show that these two exercises stimulate your body to produce more testosterone.
